"I still have too much respect for [Belichick] from that coach-player dynamic to even go there and say the things that Julian said about him," Cherry said in an interview with OutKick's "Don't @ Me with Dan Dakich." "I couldn't do it because it's just too much respect, and maybe that's because [of] old-school mentality, I'm not sure."

Cherry, who played under Belichick and alongside Brady, emphasized that he believes Belichick would not hold any resentment towards Edelman for his jokes. He explained that Belichick is not the type of person to seek revenge, and that he likely recognized that Edelman's comments were part of the entertainment value of the roast.

Cherry also acknowledged that he has had plenty of opportunities to criticize Belichick in the past, but has always chosen to keep his thoughts private. "I don’t think he’d harbor any resentment because, at the end of the day, he signed up for it," Cherry said. "And I will say this: He’s not the type of person [to say], ‘Well, I’m going to sign up for something and then hold it against you.’ So, no, I don’t think he’ll hold it against him."

Cherry, who played in the NFL from 1996 to 2004, spent the final four seasons of his career with the Patriots, where he won three Super Bowls. He recorded 131 total tackles in 127 career games.

Belichick, known for his stoic demeanor and intense coaching style, has often been the subject of jokes and criticism, but his six Super Bowl victories as a head coach speak to his success in the NFL. During the roast, Edelman poked fun at Belichick's personality and his infamous "no fun" coaching style.

Despite his playful comments, Edelman's admiration for Belichick is evident. In a social media post following the roast, Edelman thanked Belichick for his guidance and support, calling him "the greatest." Belichick, in turn, praised Edelman for his contributions to the Patriots' success, describing him as a "great player and a great teammate."
