Aaron Hernandez's fiancée, Shayanna Jenkins, has denounced jokes made about the former New England Patriots tight end during Tom Brady's Netflix special.

Jenkins told TMZ Sports that she was "upset" with the "comedic slights" directed at Hernandez, who was found guilty of the murder of Odin L. Lloyd in 2015.

"It's sad that I'm trying to raise my children in such a cruel world."

She added that Hernandez was a positive role model for their daughter.

During Brady's special, which aired on Sunday night, the former Patriots quarterback, along with comedian Nikki Glaser and others, made light of Hernandez's tragic past.

"The bar for a Patriots tight end was pretty low back then – block, catch, don’t murder," Brady said.

Tony Hinchcliffe suggested that comedian Kevin Hart was standing on the stool that Hernandez used to die by suicide.

Glaser added: "Give it up for zero-time Super Bowl champion Randy Moss! Why don’t you have a ring? What the hell, man, you’re one of the best ever. Drew Bledsoe has a ring. Aaron Hernandez had a ring – around his neck."

Jenkins criticized the jokes, saying that they were "not off limits" as she had hoped.

"I wish people would just let us be."

Hernandez played three seasons with the Patriots before he was arrested. He was acquitted of a double-murder six years prior to his arrest, but he died by suicide in prison in 2017.

Jenkins has previously spoken out about the challenges of raising her children after Hernandez's death. In 2020, she told In Depth with Graham Bensinger that she wants her daughters to know that their father was "a great person" despite his mistakes.

"I want them to know that he loved them," she said.

Jenkins' comments come as Brady faces criticism for his handling of the Deflategate scandal in his Netflix special. In the special, Brady joked about the incident, which led to a four-game suspension for the Patriots quarterback.

Some critics have accused Brady of being insensitive to the fans and players who were affected by the scandal.

Jenkins' words serve as a reminder of the human toll that jokes about tragedy can have on families and loved ones.
