Liberal political commentators and reporters have drawn comparisons between former President Trump's acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC) and the speaking style of former Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, known for his famously long and rambling speeches.

Former President Trump's address at the Republican National Convention (RNC) has drawn comparisons to the speaking style of late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, sparking criticism and allegations of a "cult of personality" surrounding Trump. Multiple liberal political commentators and reporters have noted similarities between Trump's acceptance speech and Castro's lengthy and often incoherent remarks.

Castro, who died in 2016, was renowned for his marathon speeches. In 1960, he delivered a speech at the United Nations that lasted for an astonishing 4 hours and 29 minutes. Trump's address at the RNC, which stretched for approximately 92 minutes past midnight, was significantly shorter but still raised eyebrows among critics.

"Somewhere in hell, Fidel Castro is jealous," CNN's Paul Begala remarked on Friday.

MSNBC host Alex Wagner described Trump's speech as "Castrolean in length." She observed that former Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev and Castro tended to give lengthy and incoherent speeches as they aged, a phenomenon she attributed to "a party that indulges in a cult of personality that has put all its chips on the persona of one individual and their frailties and strengths."

Joy Reid, another MSNBC host, compared the length of Trump's speech to Castro's longest known address. "He didn't quite get there," Reid said, referring to Castro's 7-hour and 10-minute speech at the Communist Party conference in Havana in 1986.

Political commentators on social media also invoked Castro's legacy in their reactions to Trump's speech. Rick Wilson, co-founder of the Lincoln Project, suggested that Trump's speech resembled a "Fidel Castro speech circa 1975."

Trump's campaign communications director, Steven Cheung, dismissed the comparisons, labeling them "Trump Derangement Syndrome" or a sign of stupidity. He accused MSNBC of deceiving viewers by reporting on the RNC from a television set in New York made to appear as if they were in Milwaukee.

Fox News Digital contributed to this report.

The comparisons between Trump's and Castro's speeches highlight concerns about the former president's leadership style and the potential for authoritarianism in American politics. Critics argue that Trump's rambling and lengthy speeches reflect a desire for control and adulation, while supporters view his rhetoric as a sign of strength and conviction.

The allegations of a "cult of personality" surrounding Trump are not new. Throughout his presidency, critics have expressed concerns about his tendency to surround himself with loyalists, suppress dissent, and promote a narrative of his own infallibility.

The RNC address further fueled these criticisms, prompting comparisons to Castro's Cuba, where government propaganda and public adulation were central to the regime's survival. Whether Trump's speech represents a genuine threat to American democracy remains to be seen. However, the comparisons to Castro's speeches serve as a reminder of the dangers of unchecked power and the importance of vigilant oversight.
