Blaise Taylor, 27, a former Tennessee Titans scout, made his first court appearance on Wednesday to attend a bond hearing. He is accused of poisoning his 25-year-old girlfriend, Jade Benning, and their unborn child, Ivy. Authorities arrested Taylor in Utah after serving him an indictment from Nashville police.

In court, US Assistant Attorney John Wehby said he intends to pursue a life sentence without parole for Taylor, citing the gravity of the crime and the fact that Benning was pregnant at the time.

"The evidence against him is significant, and we believe that a life sentence is the only just outcome in this case," Wehby said.

The Davidson County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Taylor had his bond set at $2,500,000 earlier this month. He posted bond and was released from jail.

According to prosecutors, Taylor called 911 on February 25, 2023, claiming that Benning had an allergic reaction. However, Benning was unable to speak to police due to her rapidly deteriorating condition. She died less than two weeks later, on March 6, her 25th birthday. Their unborn child, Ivy, died two days earlier.

Investigators believe that Taylor poisoned Benning with a substance found in her system. The exact substance has not been disclosed publicly.

Taylor was the father of Benning's unborn child. The couple dated for several years before Benning's tragic death.

Taylor's arrest and charges sent shockwaves through the Nashville community, where he was known as a rising star in the NFL. The Tennessee Titans released a statement expressing their condolences and cooperation with the investigation.

The case is scheduled to go to trial later this year. Taylor is facing two counts of first-degree murder, one for each victim. If convicted, he could face life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The motive behind the alleged murder is still unknown, but authorities are investigating all possibilities. The case has raised awareness about the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of seeking help in such situations.

Taylor's attorney has declined to comment on the case, citing the ongoing investigation. The case highlights the tragic consequences of violence against women and the need for justice for victims and their families.
