Los Angeles police have released disturbing footage of a deadly encounter with a suspected car thief who crashed a stolen Lamborghini at over 100 mph just seconds after fleeing a traffic stop.

The incident occurred on April 6th, when police officers responded to reports of a driver asleep at the wheel of a silver Lamborghini Aventador. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers determined that it was stolen and that the driver, 51-year-old Elliott Dugan, had outstanding warrants.

Dashcam footage shows Dugan waking up and initially cooperating with the officers, but he quickly refused to comply with their requests to get out of the car. As officers prepared to detain him, Dugan suddenly accelerated, sparking a brief and deadly chase.

Bodycam footage captured the heart-stopping moments as Dugan sped away from the officers at over 100 mph. Just blocks later, he lost control of the high-performance vehicle and crashed into the center median, splitting the Lamborghini in two.

The impact was so severe that Dugan was ejected from the wreckage and sent hurtling "several hundred feet" up the street. Emergency responders rushed to the scene but pronounced him dead at the scene.

The wreckage of the Lamborghini littered the street, with one half of the car in the westbound lane of Sherman Way and the other half on the opposite side. The impact also damaged multiple parked vehicles and took down a tree.

Police searched the area and located Dugan's body on a sidewalk up the block from the crash site. He was declared dead at the scene.

Los Angeles County Jail records indicate that Dugan had a history of run-ins with the law. He had been in and out of custody repeatedly over the last three years and had most recently been released without bond for a misdemeanor charge on January 6th.
