Gabby Douglas' bid to make the 2024 Paris Olympics came to a disappointing end on Wednesday when she announced she pulled out of the USA Gymnastics Championships due to an ankle injury. Gabby Douglas' dream of competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics has come to an end due to an ankle injury. On Wednesday, she announced her withdrawal from the USA Gymnastics Championships, dashing her hopes of making her third Team USA appearance.

Douglas, who won a gold medal in the all-around competition at the 2012 Olympics, had been training for a comeback after stepping away from the sport. She returned to competition in March at the American Classic and competed in the U.S. Classic earlier this month, qualifying to compete in three events – the vault, uneven bars, and balance beam. However, she did not meet the minimum score to compete in the all-around.

Despite the setback, Douglas remains determined to compete for a spot on the team for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.

"I love this sport and I love pushing my limits," Douglas told ESPN. "I hope I can inspire both my peers and the next generation of gymnasts that age is just a number, and you can accomplish anything you work hard for."

Douglas added her admiration for close friend and teammate Simone Biles, who is also training for the Paris Olympics.

"Simone is a superhero," Douglas said. "She's doing things in the gym that no one else in the world can do. I'm so inspired by her work ethic and dedication to the sport. She's an amazing role model for all of us."

Douglas stepped away from the sport in 2017 but never officially retired. After a two-year training comeback, she was initially set to make her official return in February at the Winter Cup. However, a positive COVID-19 test result derailed those plans.

Despite the setbacks, Douglas remains a symbol of perseverance and determination. Her journey serves as an inspiration to young gymnasts and athletes alike, demonstrating that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible.
