University of Georgia defensive back Daniel Harris was arrested on Thursday, charged with reckless driving and other traffic violations. This arrest follows a series of incidents involving Georgia football players and law enforcement.

University of Georgia defensive back Daniel Harris has become the latest in a growing list of Bulldogs players to face legal troubles, with his arrest on Thursday for reckless driving and several other traffic violations.

Harris was pulled over by Athens-Clarke County police for allegedly driving 106 mph, and was issued five misdemeanor charges, including no proof of insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle, failing to use safety belts, and illegal tinting of windows. He was released late Thursday on a total of $50 in bonds.

This arrest comes less than 48 hours before Georgia is set to take on Kentucky in a crucial SEC matchup, and it raises questions about the team's discipline and off-field conduct. Harris had played in six games as a freshman, serving as a backup in the Bulldogs' secondary and on special teams, and has four tackles in the first two games of this season.

The Georgia football program has seen a number of its players arrested since their 2022-23 national championship-winning season. These incidents have included charges of DUI, drug possession, and reckless driving.

Head coach Kirby Smart has acknowledged the team's struggles with driving safety and has emphasized the importance of responsible behavior. Following a crash that killed a player and a recruiting staffer after the team celebrated its national title in January 2023, Smart said, "The incidents that have been happening off the field are not something we condone. It's very unfortunate. 'Disappointing,' I guess is the best word."

Smart has not disclosed the specific punishment that Harris will receive, but past history suggests that he will not be playing against Kentucky. Running back Trevor Etienne missed a season-opening victory after an offseason arrest.

Julian Humphrey is likely to get the nod as the starting cornerback against Kentucky in Harris's absence.
