New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers departed Sunday's practice session prematurely due to a suspected minor left ankle sprain. The first-round draft pick's sudden departure cast a shadow over an otherwise encouraging practice for the Giants.
## Article:
East Rutherford, NJ – The New York Giants resumed practice on Sunday, marking their first session since their preseason opener against the Detroit Lions. While the team welcomed back offensive lineman Evan Neal, a concerning development emerged with wide receiver Malik Nabers leaving practice early due to an apparent ankle injury.
The circumstances surrounding Nabers' injury remain unclear. However, the No. 6 overall pick in the draft was observed being assessed by trainers on the sideline. He removed his shoe and sock, later taking a seat on a chest to observe the remainder of the workout. Nabers left the field with a noticeable limp after practice, and the Giants announced an hour later that he had been diagnosed with a minor ankle sprain.
Nabers has been a standout performer throughout training camp, showcasing his ability to make impressive catches from quarterback Daniel Jones and turn short passes into substantial gains. Despite his departure from Sunday's practice, he has consistently displayed potential as a dynamic playmaker.
Head coach Brian Daboll expressed his intention for Jones to participate in Saturday's preseason game against the Houston Texans. However, Jones' playing time is contingent upon a successful practice week. The third-year coach emphasized that Jones must clear all necessary steps to make his first game appearance since suffering an ACL tear against the Las Vegas Raiders last November.
While Nabers' injury provided a cause for concern, the return of Neal to practice was a welcome boost for the Giants. The offensive tackle missed the preseason opener due to a minor knee injury. His presence will bolster the offensive line, which struggled at times against the Lions.
The Giants will continue to prepare for their upcoming matchup against the Texans, while monitoring Nabers' ankle condition. The game will serve as an important opportunity for the team to evaluate its progress and fine-tune its performance before the regular season begins.
