A 'Never Walz' booth is attracting crowds at the Minnesota State Fair as House Republicans subpoena Governor Tim Walz over his administration's handling of taxpayer funds during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Minnesota State Fair is abuzz with political fervor as a 'Never Walz' booth draws attention to Governor Tim Walz's controversial tenure. Simultaneously, Walz, a potential 2024 running mate for Vice President Kamala Harris, faces scrutiny from House Republicans over his administration's handling of taxpayer funds during the COVID-19 pandemic.

House Education and Workforce Committee Chair Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., issued a subpoena to Walz, focusing on a $250 million fraud scheme involving the Minnesota-based nonprofit Feeding Our Future. The Department of Justice (DOJ) accused the organization of exploiting a federally-funded child nutrition program by fabricating attendance rosters and invoices.

Foxx's letter to Walz emphasizes his accountability as Minnesota's chief executive for the state Department of Education's (MDE) administration of Federal Child Nutrition Programs (FCNP). She alleges that Walz and other executive officials were involved in or aware of MDE's handling of the FCNP and its response to the massive fraud.

Subpoenas were also sent to Minnesota Commissioner of Education Willie Jett and Biden administration Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. A spokeswoman for Walz stated that his administration had diligently pursued fraud prevention and expressed gratitude to the FBI for assisting in the arrests and charges against the individuals involved.

Past local reporting indicates that the MDE notified the FBI about suspected fraud in April 2021 and later resumed funding to nonprofits partnering with Feeding Our Future while rejecting new food site applications from the group.

House Republicans have intensified their examination of Walz since his selection as the potential Democratic vice presidential candidate. The House Oversight Committee is investigating Walz's alleged connections to China.

The subpoena and ongoing investigations have cast a shadow over Walz's political ambitions. The 'Never Walz' booth at the State Fair serves as a tangible reminder of the growing doubts and opposition surrounding his administration's handling of public funds and other controversial issues.

Meanwhile, Walz's supporters maintain his innocence and emphasize his commitment to taxpayer accountability. They point to his administration's actions in addressing the fraud scheme and his track record of responsible fiscal management.

As the political spectacle unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the allegations against Walz will damage his political future or whether he can weather the storm and maintain the support of Minnesota voters.
