Governor Greg Abbott has announced the awarding of over $578,000 in Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grants to support career and technical education (CTE) training programs in various schools across the state. These grants will enable schools to purchase and install equipment, enhancing their CTE programs and providing students with hands-on training in high-demand fields.
The JET grants are designed to support CTE programs at secondary and post-secondary educational institutions, as well as community colleges. The funding will primarily be utilized for the acquisition and installation of state-of-the-art equipment that will be used to train students in fields such as manufacturing, automotive technology, construction, and healthcare.

Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of CTE programs in preparing students for the workforce and meeting the demands of the state's rapidly growing economy. He stated, "These grants will help schools provide students with the skills they need to succeed in high-demand fields and contribute to the growth of our state's economy."
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) will administer the JET grants, which will be awarded to schools that demonstrate a commitment to providing quality CTE programs. The grants are expected to benefit thousands of students by providing them with access to the latest equipment and technology.
According to TEA Commissioner Mike Morath, "These grants will play a vital role in ensuring that our students are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to compete in a global economy. By investing in CTE programs, we are investing in the future workforce of Texas."
The JET grants have a track record of success in supporting CTE programs and preparing students for the workforce. In previous years, these grants have helped schools to purchase equipment such as welding machines, CNC machines, and computer-aided design systems.
The recipients of the JET grants include:
* Amarillo ISD - $50,000 for automotive technology equipment
* Austin Community College - $100,000 for advanced manufacturing equipment
* Dallas ISD - $75,000 for construction technology equipment
* El Paso Community College - $50,000 for healthcare technology equipment
* Houston ISD - $100,000 for manufacturing technology equipment
The JET grants are part of Governor Abbott's broader commitment to workforce development and economic growth. By investing in CTE programs, the state is ensuring that its future workforce is equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the demands of the 21st-century economy.
