Kim Mungo, a neighbor who had known Routh for nearly two decades, described the family as "weird," recalling an incident where they kept a live horse inside their house. "I could see the guns and stuff and all," Mungo said. "They were ... oh, I mean, kind of weird. But they didn't bother me. I didn't bother them."

Routh's arrest record in Guilford County, North Carolina, spans several decades, beginning in the 1980s and continuing into the 2010s. Among his charges are writing bad checks, felony firearm possession, and multiple counts of possession of a weapon of mass destruction in 2002.

Mungo confirmed Routh's identity to law enforcement officials after seeing a photo of him following the incident at Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach. "It's just crazy to me," she said. "He was a good guy. He was sweet."

However, Mungo noted that she had not seen Routh in over a year since he moved to Hawaii, leaving his Greensboro home unoccupied. She also stated that the family did not express any strong political views during their time as neighbors.

Other neighbors who spoke to Fox News Digital expressed surprise and disbelief at the allegations against Routh. They had no prior knowledge of his involvement in the assassination attempt.

Civil court records indicate that Routh's daughter lived with him full-time after his divorce in 2003. His son remained with his ex-wife.

Federal authorities have charged Routh with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
