A sixth House Democrat, Adam Smith, has added his voice to the chorus of party members urging President Biden to withdraw from the 2024 White House race due to concerns about his mental fitness.

The White House is facing mounting pressure to address concerns about President Biden's mental acuity after a sixth House Democrat, Rep. Adam Smith, joined the call for him to step aside.

Smith, the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, told CNN host Jake Tapper on Monday afternoon that he believes the 81-year-old president is not the best candidate to defeat former President Trump in November.

"I think he should step aside," Smith said bluntly. "I think it's become clear that he's not the best person to carry the Democratic message."

While acknowledging Biden's achievements in office, including the economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, Smith maintained that he is not effectively delivering the Democratic message to the public.

"We've got Donald Trump, who's a complete disaster," Smith said. "We've got a good message. The president has shown he's not capable of delivering that message…in an effective way."

Smith also rejected the pleas of Biden allies to downplay the issue of his fitness for office.

"A lot of Democrats are saying, 'Well, let's move on. Let's stop talking about it.' We're not the ones who are bringing it up," Smith said. "Our constituents are bringing it up, the country is bringing it up."

"The…campaign strategy of 'Be quiet and fall in line and let's ignore it' simply isn't working right now," he added.

Smith's comments follow a series of incidents that have raised concerns about Biden's mental alertness. During a CNN Presidential Debate last month, he appeared tired and stumbled over his answers while speaking with a hoarse voice.

Even some of Biden's allies raised concerns after the debate, noting that he had not appeared as sharp as he did during his 2020 presidential run against Trump.

Smith is the latest in a growing group of national-level Democrats to urge Biden to step aside. Others include Reps. Lloyd Doggett, Raul Grijalva, Angie Craig, Mike Quigley, and Seth Moulton.

Despite the pressure, Biden has repeatedly refused to withdraw from the race. In a letter to Congressional Democrats earlier on Monday, he wrote that it was "time for it to end" and that the focus should be on defeating Trump.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Biden campaign for comment.

As House Democrats prepare for their regular Tuesday morning caucus-wide meeting, the issue of Biden's mental fitness is expected to be a major topic of discussion.
