Devin Haney's father, Bill Haney, is calling for a lifetime ban for Ryan Garcia after the latter tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) following a fight with Haney. Haney claims Garcia's erratic behavior and alleged use of banned substances supplied by Floyd Mayweather warrant a permanent suspension from the sport.
Devin Haney's father, Bill Haney, is demanding a lifetime ban for Ryan Garcia after a drug test revealed the latter tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs).
In a scathing interview with TMZ Sports, Bill Haney condemned Garcia's actions, labeling them "a terrible thing for sports in general" and "a terrible thing for boxing." He specifically accused Garcia of using banned substances supplied by boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.
"Floyd Mayweather, come out of them bushes hiding and playing and capping," Haney exclaimed. "On April 20, you was skinning and grinning from ear to ear. You was happy to tell the world about the 3.2 lbs that you helped Ryan Garcia come in overweight with. Now that he tested positive for four PEDs, now you want to head for the hills and go quiet like you in Dubai somewhere. Well, I'm going to tell you, Floyd, wherever you're at, what we and the world want to know is... We know you were the middle man to Ryan Garcia's, but what we want to know is are you the middle man to the steroids?"
Garcia's positive drug test came after a controversial bout with Haney, in which Garcia emerged victorious despite missing weight and the WBC super lightweight title being taken off the line. The fight was further marred by Garcia's erratic behavior leading up to the event, leading many to question his commitment to the sport.
After the drug test results were revealed, Garcia initially made a post on social media expressing his love for steroids, but his camp later released a statement claiming he had "never intentionally used any banned substance" and his supplements may have been contaminated.
However, Garcia tested positive for Ostarine, a selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM) that promotes muscle growth and has been banned by the Anti-Doping Agency since 2008.
Garcia's positive drug test has also drawn attention from MMA star Conor McGregor, who called for a lifetime ban for the boxer.
The New York State Athletic Commission is currently investigating the matter, and Garcia could face significant penalties if found guilty of using banned substances.
Bill Haney maintains that Garcia's positive drug test and alleged ties to Mayweather warrant a lifetime ban from boxing, emphasizing that "there's nothing that you can do with this guy, but get him out of the sport."
The allegations and accusations surrounding Garcia's positive drug test cast a shadow over the sport of boxing and raise serious questions about the integrity of its athletes. It remains to be seen what the outcome of the investigation will be and whether Garcia will face any consequences, including a potential lifetime ban.
