Republicans are slamming Vice President Kamala Harris for admitting she was "the last person in the room" when President Biden made the decision to abruptly evacuate all U.S. troops from Afghanistan. The criticism comes on the anniversary of the fatal suicide bombing that occurred outside Kabul's airport, which led to the deaths of 13 U.S. service members.

Top Republicans are slamming Vice President Kamala Harris for admitting she was "the last person in the room" when President Biden made the decision to abruptly evacuate all U.S. troops from Afghanistan. The criticism comes on the anniversary of the fatal suicide bombing that occurred at Abbey Gate, located outside Kabul's Hamid Karazai International Airport, which ultimately led to the deaths of 13 U.S. service members and injured others.

Harris' comments about her involvement in the decision to evacuate the war-torn region came ahead of the tragic attack, during an April 2021 interview with CNN's Dana Bash. "He just made a really big decision – Afghanistan. Were you the last person in the room?" Bash asked Harris. "Yes," she replied, adding that she was "comfortable" with the president's decision and admired his courage for making the call.

This year marks the third anniversary of the tragic event and certain Republicans did not hold back on their criticism of the now-Democratic candidate for president's remarks, with some arguing it shows Harris' involvement in the disastrous decision.

"Harris' admission that she was the last person in the room when Biden made the catastrophic decision to withdraw from Afghanistan is morally abhorrent," said Senator Rick Scott (R-FL). "Her involvement in this reckless decision shows her complicity in the deaths of 13 American service members and the abandonment of our Afghan allies."

Other Republicans echoed Scott's sentiments, accusing Harris of being out of touch with the consequences of her actions.

"Harris' comments are a slap in the face to the families of the victims of the Kabul suicide bombing," said Representative Michael McCaul (R-TX). "Her lack of understanding of the gravity of the situation is alarming and shows that she is not fit to be president."

The criticism from Republicans comes as Harris prepares to enter the 2024 presidential race. She is widely seen as the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, but her involvement in the Afghanistan withdrawal decision is likely to become a major issue in the campaign.

In addition to the Republicans' criticism, Harris is also facing scrutiny from the Trump campaign, which has accused her of having a "conflict of interest" due to her ties to Google. The campaign alleges that Harris has been receiving advice from a lawyer who works for Google, which could give the company an unfair advantage in the upcoming election.

Harris' campaign has denied the allegations, calling them "baseless" and "desperate." The campaign has also accused the Trump campaign of trying to distract from the real issues facing the country.

The controversy over Harris' involvement in the Afghanistan withdrawal decision is likely to continue as the 2024 presidential race heats up.
