A new poll from the Howard University Initiative on Public Opinion shows a significant advantage for Vice President Kamala Harris over former President Donald Trump among Black voters in key swing states.

The 2024 presidential race is heating up, and new polling data is emerging that sheds light on voter preferences in crucial battleground states. A recent poll conducted by the Howard University Initiative on Public Opinion surveyed Black voters in seven swing states and found that Vice President Kamala Harris holds a substantial lead over former President Donald Trump.

The poll results are striking, with 82% of Black voters indicating their support for Harris, while only 12% backed Trump. The remaining 5% of respondents reported being undecided, and 1% expressed their intention to vote for a different candidate.

The data highlights a significant difference between age groups. Black voters over 50 years old overwhelmingly supported Harris, with 89% expressing their support for her candidacy. In contrast, only 8% of this demographic group indicated support for Trump. Younger Black voters, however, showed a more nuanced pattern. While 75% still supported Harris, support for Trump doubled to 16%, and the proportion of respondents indicating support for alternative candidates rose to 9%.

The age-related disparity in support was particularly evident among men. Black men under 50 favored Harris over Trump by a margin of 72% to 21%, significantly higher than the 88% to 10% support Harris received among men over 50.

The Howard University poll surveyed 1,000 Black voters over the age of 18 who are registered to vote in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The poll was conducted from September 4-11 and has a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points.

Polling experts say the results of the Howard University poll are significant because they provide insights into the voting preferences of a crucial demographic in the upcoming election. Black voters have historically played a decisive role in determining the outcome of presidential elections, and their support for Harris in key swing states could be a significant factor in determining the 2024 election outcome.

However, it is important to note that the poll results represent only a snapshot in time, and the political landscape could change significantly in the months leading up to the election. The Trump campaign is likely to focus on mobilizing its base and energizing voters who may not have participated in the 2020 election.

The race between Harris and Trump in the swing states is expected to be close, and the outcome could have a profound impact on the direction of the United States. The results of the Howard University poll suggest that Harris has a strong foundation of support among Black voters, but it remains to be seen whether Trump can make up ground in this crucial demographic.
