On Thursday, July 4th, Hayden Springer cemented his place in PGA Tour history by becoming the 14th golfer to shoot a sub-60 round, carding a remarkable 59 in the first round of the John Deere Classic.
Hayden Springer's breathtaking performance at the John Deere Classic on Thursday was a testament to his exceptional skill and relentless focus. The 25-year-old American golfer etched his name into the annals of the PGA Tour, becoming only the 14th player to shoot a round under 60.
Springer started his round with a par on the opening hole before embarking on an extraordinary run that would set the tone for the rest of the day. An eagle on the second hole was followed by four consecutive birdies, giving him an astonishing 27 on the front nine.

Springer remained composed on the back nine, recording five straight pars before adding another two birdies to his tally. The highlight of his back nine came on the par-5 16th hole, where he once again drained an eagle putt, bringing his score to 59.
Springer's sub-60 round puts him in an exclusive club of just 13 other golfers who have achieved the same feat. The only player to shoot a lower score is Jim Furyk, who holds the PGA Tour record with a 58 set in 2016.

Springer's accomplishment is part of a recent trend of sub-60 rounds on the PGA Tour. In the last three weeks alone, Cameron Young and Springer have both shot 59s, while Cristobal del Solar of Chile recorded a 57 on the Korn Ferry Tour.
Despite being a relative newcomer to the PGA Tour, having turned pro in 2019, Springer has already established himself as a rising star. The Tennessee native has competed in 18 PGA Tour events, with his highest finish being a third-place result at the Puerto Rico Open earlier this year.

While Springer holds a commanding four-stroke lead after the first round, several other golfers are within striking distance. Harry Hall is four strokes behind Springer, while Kevin Chappell and Hayden Buckley trail by five strokes. However, with three rounds remaining, anything can happen.
While Springer's 59 is an incredible achievement, it is still five strokes shy of Furyk's record-breaking 58. Whether Springer can match or surpass Furyk's feat remains to be seen, but his performance on Thursday has certainly put him in contention for golf's most elusive milestone.
Springer's sub-60 round has not only solidified his status as a rising star, but it has also set him up for a potential victory at the John Deere Classic. With three rounds remaining, Springer will look to hold off the competition and claim his first PGA Tour win.
