Philadelphia authorities have condemned illegal street takeovers that plagued the city over the weekend, resulting in violence and damage. From Saturday night to Sunday morning, hundreds of drag racers descended upon multiple locations, causing chaos and destruction.

According to police, crowds of up to 200 vehicles gathered at each site, engaging in reckless driving, drifting in circles, setting off fireworks, and starting trash fires. Videos circulating online show mobs vandalizing police vehicles, including one instance where a police cruiser was swarmed and stomped on.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, shared a video clip of the police car incident on Twitter, comparing it to a scene from the 2019 film "The Joker." In the film, the protagonist stands on top of a crashed police car amid riots in Gotham City.

"Pretty sure I saw this scene in The Joker," Musk tweeted.

The House Judiciary GOP account also condemned the violence, stating, "You're not safe in Democrat-run Philadelphia."

Conservative influencer Joey Mannarino drew comparisons to the video game "Grand Theft Auto," saying, "Philadelphia basically looks like a game of Grand Theft Auto now. It is just sad that we've allowed the city where the Declaration of Independence was signed to become this."

Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Mike Cram said during a news conference on Monday that the mob's behavior was "aggressive" and that officers were "definitely targeted."

"They physically went after some of our officers," Cram said. "There's officers in the car, they're jumping on the windshield. They're physically doing damage."

Cram described the officers as being "trapped" inside the car as the mob swarmed the patrol unit. He added that one officer suffered minor injuries after a vehicle struck his patrol car and fled.

"They don't care about your safety, their own safety," Cram said. "If you've all seen the videos with their behavior, they really don't care. It's just about how much chaos can we cause?"

Police reported that five Philadelphia police vehicles sustained damage, including broken windshields and flat tires.

"This isn't a third world country. This is PHILADELPHIA," podcaster Graham Allen said.

Authorities are still investigating the incidents and have not announced any arrests.
