In a heated debate on CNN, anti-Trump attorney George Conway accused CNN contributor Scott Jennings of lying in regard to the former president's recent conviction in New York. The confrontation occurred on Friday during a discussion about the implications of Trump's conviction on the Republican Party.

Conway, a vocal critic of Trump, was visibly angered as Jennings argued that Trump's conviction has united the GOP and will "backfire" on the Democrats.

"Scott's lying and that's the problem with the Republican Party," Conway asserted, his voice rising. "It's continually addicted to lies. It's a lie."

Jennings, a former Republican strategist, denied the accusation, prompting Conway to escalate his attack.

"You're lying!" Conway yelled. "You're lying, Scott. You're lying about the law! You're lying about what the jury was charged to find. They don't have an underlying crime. They had to find the intent to cover up an underlying crime."

Jennings remained calm, asking Conway to clarify his claim of lying. However, Conway refused, instead criticizing Jennings' affiliation with CNN.

"This is the problem with the Republican Party is that they are suffused with lies," he said. "I don't know why this network is paying Scott to say those lies."

The comment drew a rebuke from CNN host Kasie Hunt, who intervened to remind Conway of Jennings' status as a contributor.

"Whoa, whoa, OK, let's not go there, George," Hunt said. "Scott is our colleague and we are going to treat him respectfully as such."

Conway dismissed Hunt's objection, accusing the network of bias. "This is ridiculous," he said.

Jennings maintained his composure, arguing that Trump's trial appeared politically motivated. He compared it to the confirmation hearings of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in 2018, where he witnessed intense anger from both sides.

"I feel and sense that the same thing is happening today, which is why I think you're probably going to see this backfire politically on the Democrats and they're going to regret it," Jennings said.

Conway remained unconvinced, muttering to himself in a low voice while Jennings spoke.

The heated exchange highlighted the sharp divisions within the Republican Party following Trump's conviction. Conway's accusations of lying reflect the deep distrust and skepticism some GOP members hold towards Trump and his supporters.

The debate also underscores the challenges CNN faces in balancing diverse perspectives while maintaining a neutral stance. Hunt's intervention served as a reminder of the network's commitment to treating all contributors with respect, even when their opinions clash.
