The Heritage Foundation is dodging a request from House Democrats for a meeting to discuss its Project 2025, a set of proposals outlining right-wing policy goals that have drawn fire from Democrats.

The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, is refusing to say whether it will comply with a request from nearly 40 House Democrats to meet about its Project 2025 initiative.

The initiative, which outlines right-wing policy goals and recommendations for a new Republican administration, has sparked controversy in the midst of the 2024 presidential election cycle.

Democrats have seized upon Project 2025 as evidence of extremism within the GOP, while former President Trump and his top campaign aides have sought to distance themselves from the plan.

In a letter to Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts, House Democratic Reps. Jared Huffman of California and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts expressed concern about the impact of Project 2025 on the future of the nation.

The lawmakers said they have been hearing from constituents who are worried about the plan's potential to dismantle checks and balances, amass unprecedented presidential power, and exercise total control over the government.

The Democrats' letter specifically highlighted the fourth pillar of Project 2025, which provides a roadmap for a suggested first 180 days in office. They accused Roberts of not being forthcoming with the details of this pillar.

"It is time to stop hiding the ball on what we are concerned could very well be the most radical, extreme, and dangerous parts of Project 2025," the letter said.

The Democrats requested a meeting with Roberts to discuss the project and its potential impact on the government and the lives of Americans.

However, a Heritage Foundation spokesman declined to comment on the letter when contacted by Fox News Digital.

The foundation's silence has only fueled Democrats' concerns.

"The Heritage Foundation's refusal to engage with Congress on this matter is deeply troubling," Huffman said in a statement. "The American people deserve to know what Project 2025 entails and how it will impact their lives."

Critics of Project 2025 have pointed to its proposed overhauls, which include eliminating the Department of Education and dismantling the Health and Human Services Department's Reproductive Healthcare Access Task Force.

Meanwhile, Roberts has dismissed the Democratic-led Stop Project 2025 Task Force as "unserious."

"It's amusing how those on the Left seem surprised that conservative policy organizations advocate for conservative policies," Roberts said in June.

He added that the Democrats' efforts are a "smear campaign" against the conservative movement.

The controversy over Project 2025 is likely to continue as the 2024 election cycle intensifies. Democrats are expected to use the plan as a political weapon to attack Republicans, while conservatives will defend it as a roadmap for a better future for America.
