Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah escalate with airstrikes and rocket attacks, prompting a heightened state of alert in the Middle East.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has initiated a series of airstrikes targeting Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, aiming to eliminate threats posed against Israel. This comes after the IDF detected preparations by Hezbollah to launch missiles and rockets towards Israeli territory.

IDF Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, a spokesperson, stated at a press briefing, "We are removing threats against the Israeli home front." Dozens of Israeli Air Force jets are currently engaged in strikes on targets in various locations within southern Lebanon, he added.

Hagari emphasized that Israel's focus is on intercepting threats to its airspace and striking Hezbollah infrastructure. He also warned civilians in southern Lebanon of potential risks as Hezbollah operates in close proximity to residential areas.

Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for an offensive towards Israel, launching rockets and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) into Israeli territory. In a statement, the group asserted that its military operation for the day had been completed.

However, the IDF has reported intercepting several rockets and UAVs, effectively thwarting Hezbollah's attempts to inflict damage on Israel.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz has reached out to numerous foreign counterparts, seeking support and understanding for Israel's actions in self-defense against Hezbollah. He stressed that Israel aims to protect its citizens and territory from threats emanating from Iran and its proxies.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has engaged in discussions with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant regarding the IDF's activities. The two leaders emphasized the need to avoid regional escalation, while Gallant highlighted Israel's determination to safeguard its citizens from imminent threats.

As tensions intensify, Israeli Defense Minister Gallant has declared an emergency situation for 48 hours. This measure authorizes additional precautions and mobilization of resources to ensure the safety and well-being of Israeli citizens.
