Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after 6 p.m. following reports of an initially two-alarm fire at the intersection of San Jacinto and North Ervay Street, according to FOX 4. The blaze escalated rapidly, prompting firefighters to elevate the alarm level to four.
Thick smoke billowed from the church's sanctuary, which was partially destroyed by the relentless flames. The historic building, constructed in 1868 with its sanctuary added in 1890, has served as a beacon for the Dallas community for over a century.

First Baptist Pastor Robert Jeffress has requested prayers for the church, expressing gratitude that no injuries have been reported. Jeffress, quoting from Romans 8:28, emphasized God's sovereignty even in challenging times.
"We have experienced a fire in the Historic Sanctuary," Jeffress wrote on the church's website. "To our knowledge, no one is hurt or injured, and we thank God for His protection. He is sovereign even in the most difficult times."

The pastor added that the church will provide updates as they prepare to resume worship services. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and Dallas Fire-Rescue has been contacted for further information.
