Daniel Selznick, the son of legendary producer David O. Selznick and grandson of MGM co-founder Louis B. Mayer, died at 88. He was known for producing the documentary "The Making of a Legend: ‘Gone with the Wind'" and other television movies.

Daniel Selznick, a Hollywood producer who was the last direct connection to an iconic family, passed away at the age of 88 on Thursday. Born in 1936 to famed "Gone With the Wind" producer David O. Selznick and theatrical producer Irene Mayer Selznick, Selznick grew up in the heart of the entertainment industry.

Following in his family's footsteps, Selznick embarked on a career in Hollywood. After graduating from Harvard University, he worked as a production executive at Universal Studios for four years. In 1988, he produced the documentary "The Making of a Legend: ‘Gone with the Wind’" alongside his late older brother Jeffrey. The documentary, which won a Peabody Award, chronicled the creation of their father's Academy Award-winning masterpiece.

Apart from the documentary, Selznick produced several television movies, including "Blood Feud," "Night Drive," "Reagan’s Way: Pathway to the Presidency," and "Hoover vs. the Kennedys: The Second Civil War." He also directed "Reagan’s Way."

In addition to his film and television work, Selznick served as a successful theatrical producer. He produced the play "The Man with the Perfect Wife" starring his stepmother, Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Jones.

Selznick was also involved in philanthropic activities, serving as the director of the nonprofit organization Louis B. Mayer Foundation. He was an ardent supporter of the arts and education.

While living at the Motion Picture Country Home in Woodland Hills, California, Selznick penned a memoir titled "Walking With Kings," which will be published next year by Alfred Knopf. The memoir is a testament to his experiences growing up in Hollywood and working with legendary figures of the industry.
