Actor Michael Douglas visited the Israeli Kibbutz Be'eri, which was devastated by an October 2023 Hamas attack, sparking a conflict between Israel and the militant group. During his visit, Douglas met with families of hostages still held captive by Hamas and expressed solidarity with Israel.
Actor Michael Douglas paid a solidarity visit to an Israeli kibbutz that was severely impacted by a Hamas attack in October 2023, which triggered an armed conflict between Israel and the militant group.
Douglas's visit to Kibbutz Be'eri, in southern Israel near the Gaza border, included meeting with community members and visiting homes destroyed in the October 7 attack. Be'eri was among the communities hardest hit, with approximately 100 people killed and 30 taken hostage.
Douglas interacted with families of hostages still held by Hamas and witnessed the devastation caused by the attack, including a music party where over 300 people lost their lives. He expressed hope for the hostages' swift release.
While in Israel, Douglas also met with President Isaac Herzog, who presented him with an Israeli dog tag necklace and a yellow ribbon pin, symbols of solidarity with the hostages. Douglas described the visit as an opportunity to witness the impact of the conflict firsthand.
"It's a very difficult time. You sense the deep shock of this whole experience," Douglas said.
Douglas criticized anti-Israel protests on American campuses, stating that protesters often lacked knowledge and had been subjected to "brainwashing."
"When you try to talk to many of them, there is no education. There's no knowledge," he said.
Douglas's visit follows a series of visits by American celebrities and politicians to Israel since the October 7 attack. These visits have demonstrated continued support for Israel during the conflict with Hamas.
Kibbutz Be'eri has received significant attention after the attack, highlighting the human toll of the conflict. The community has expressed appreciation for the international support and solidarity it has received.
