Nevada Rep. Steven Horsford dismisses critics of President Biden's mental fitness as rooted in "ageism" and "ableism," pointing to his accomplishments despite his age.

Democratic Rep. Steven Horsford (D-Nev.) has vehemently defended President Biden's record and mental fitness against ongoing concerns ahead of the upcoming November election, vehemently denouncing them as rooted in ageism and ableism rather than valid criticisms of his policies.

Horsford appeared on "CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip" Monday night, following reports that a majority of voters, including Democrats, are harboring doubts about Biden's ability to serve. Phillip confronted Horsford with these concerns, to which he retorted that the conversation had been bogged down by ageism, which he found "interesting."

"What I find interesting is the issue is more around ageism, ableism, and not what this president, President Biden, has done," Horsford asserted.

He then proceeded to list Biden's achievements, emphasizing that his age has not hindered his ability to lift 50% of children out of poverty, pass a bipartisan infrastructure law, or enact the bipartisan Safer Communities Act to curb gun violence.

Horsford reiterated his support for Biden, stating, "Clearly, this president is fit to serve. He has been fighting for the American people. I know more than 14 million Americans have already voted for him, including those in my state of Nevada. We need to honor and respect the will of the voters who have selected him as our Democratic nominee."

However, despite Horsford's unwavering support, several other Democratic lawmakers have publicly urged Biden to step aside. Democratic Reps. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.), Seth Moulton (D-Mass.), Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas), Angie Craig (D-Minn.), Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.), and Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.) have all voiced their concerns.

These lawmakers have cited Biden's age, perceived mental decline, and poor debate performance as reasons for their belief that he is not up to the rigors of the presidency. Some have even expressed concerns that he would be unable to handle the demands of the office in the face of potential crises.

Despite these calls, Biden has maintained the support of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), including Horsford, who serves as its chair. The CBC held a virtual call with Biden on Monday, during which he reportedly thanked them for their unwavering support and promised mutual loyalty.

"You've had my back, and I'll continue to have yours," Biden told the CBC members on the call.

The White House press corps has defended its coverage of Biden's age, stating that it is a complex issue that requires careful consideration. However, some critics have accused the media of ageism and of using his age to undermine his presidency.

As the election draws near, the debate over Biden's fitness will likely continue. Horsford and other supporters remain confident in his ability to serve, while critics maintain their concerns. Ultimately, the voters will decide whether Biden is up to the challenge of leading the country for another four years.
