House Democratic leaders have vowed their unwavering support for Republican Speaker Mike Johnson, pledging to shield him from Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene's motion to oust him from power. Their decision effectively ensures the defeat of Greene's resolution, which has drawn scant support within the GOP.

"From the very beginning of this Congress, House Democrats have put people over politics and found bipartisan common ground with traditional Republicans in order to deliver real results," stated House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, joined by House Minority Whip Katherine Clark and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar.

"At the same time, House Democrats have aggressively pushed back against MAGA extremism. We will continue to do just that," they asserted.

Their announcement, made at the commencement of Johnson's weekly House GOP leadership press conference, prompted a barrage of questions from reporters.

"I have to do my job, we have to do what we believe to be the right thing. What the country needs right now is a functioning Congress," Johnson responded when asked for his reaction. "We need people who are serious about the job here."

Johnson expressed surprise at the Democratic leaders' decision and denied discussing a motion to vacate with Jeffries earlier this month when Democratic votes proved crucial in passing his $95 billion foreign aid plan.

Greene initiated her resolution nearly 40 days ago, citing her disapproval of Johnson's handling of government funding and foreign aid. However, it has garnered only two co-sponsors, Representatives Thomas Massie and Paul Gosar, amidst the House's passage of a $61 billion aid package for Ukraine.

Despite Johnson's critics within the conservative House Freedom Caucus, they have distanced themselves from the move to oust him, signaling a lack of enthusiasm for a repeat of the chaos that ensued after the removal of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy last fall.

With the razor-thin majority Johnson presides over, Democratic support became essential for his survival. However, Democrats have the option of voting against Greene's motion directly or supporting a motion to table it, effectively ending its consideration.

The Democratic leaders' statement indicated their intention to block Greene's measure in the initial vote. Fox News Digital reached out to Greene's office for comment but did not receive an immediate response.

The outcome of this standoff is expected to have significant implications for the functioning of Congress and the ongoing power struggle within the Republican Party.
