Amidst a conservative backlash against National Public Radio (NPR) over renewed allegations of liberal bias, House Freedom Caucus Chairman Bob Good has introduced a bill to block federal funding from the organization.

Congressional Republicans are applying pressure on both NPR and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) in light of the bias scandal. Numerous letters have been sent from House and Senate Republicans, demanding action to ensure NPR's integrity and address the allegations made by former senior editor Uri Berliner.

The House Committee on Energy and Commerce has requested NPR CEO Katherine Maher to appear for a hearing on the allegations. However, a spokesperson for NPR has stated that Maher will not be attending the hearing on the scheduled date due to a previously scheduled board meeting.

"NPR respects the committee and its request and has offered to testify on a date in the near future," the spokesperson said. "NPR has a previously scheduled and publicly posted all-day meeting of its board of directors on that date."

A spokesperson for the House Energy and Commerce committee expressed disappointment over Maher's decision not to testify. "The chair looks forward to reviewing her thorough and transparent responses to the committee's letter," the spokesperson said.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and other Republican senators have sent letters to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting seeking answers about the organization's grant funding to NPR.

"CPB has confirmed receipt of Senator Cruz's letter and will reply in a timely manner," a CPB spokesperson said.

The allegations of ideological bias in NPR's newsroom have prompted legislative action. House Freedom Caucus Chair Bob Good (R-Va.) has introduced a bill that would prohibit NPR from receiving federal funding and prevent public radio stations with federal grants from using them to buy content from or pay dues to NPR.

"NPR has been using taxpayer dollars to promote its left-wing agenda," Good said. "This bill will put an end to that and ensure that taxpayer money is not being used to fund biased media."

NPR has defended itself against the allegations of liberal bias, emphasizing its commitment to providing objective journalism.

"NPR's mission is to provide unbiased and reliable news coverage to the American public," a spokesperson said. "We are confident that we have met this mission and will continue to do so."

The allegations against NPR have raised concerns about the impartiality of public broadcasting and its role in American society. As the debate continues, Congress will likely play a significant role in determining the future of NPR and its relationship with the American public.
