A Houston police officer tragically lost his life en route to work during Hurricane Beryl, which downgraded from a tropical storm and left a devastating impact on Texas.
In a heart-wrenching incident, the Houston Police Department announced the tragic loss of one of their own as Hurricane Beryl swept through Texas on Monday. Information Security Officer Russell Richardson, 54, succumbed to the rising floodwaters on Houston Avenue as he made his way to work.
HPD's acting police chief, Larry Satterwhite, expressed profound sorrow over the incident, stating, "I am deeply saddened to report we lost a member of our HPD family today while he was en route to work during the hurricane."

Richardson, assigned to the Office of Technology Services, was caught in the treacherous waters, leaving his family, friends, and fellow officers in deep mourning. Satterwhite's statement acknowledged the immense sacrifice Richardson had made, "Information Security Officer Russell Richardson, 54, assigned to the Office of Technology Services, was caught in rising flood waters [sic] on Houston Avenue and tragically lost his life."
"We ask everyone to keep Russell's family – his wife and children – and his coworkers and friends in your prayers," Satterwhite urged, recognizing the immeasurable loss the family had endured.
