The first son faces a possible 25-year prison sentence but is unlikely to receive that much time behind bars.

Hunter Biden Guilty in Historic Gun Purchase Case

Hunter Biden was found guilty on Tuesday on all charges in a landmark criminal case focused on his purchase of a firearm in 2018. The jury deliberated for a total of three hours between Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning.

Biden was found guilty of making a false statement in the purchase of a gun, making a false statement related to information required to be kept by a federally licensed gun dealer, and possession of a gun by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.

The maximum sentence for his federal charges adds up to 25 years in prison, but as a first-time offender, Biden is highly unlikely to receive that much time behind bars.

Biden departed from federal court in Wilmington, Delaware, on Tuesday after the verdict was announced, accompanied by his wife, Melissa Cohen.

"I am more grateful today for the love and support I experienced this last week from Melissa, my family, my friends, and my community than I am disappointed by the outcome," Biden said in a statement following the verdict. "Recovery is possible by the grace of God, and I am blessed to experience that gift one day at a time."

The prosecution alleged that Biden lied on a federal form when he purchased a gun in 2018 by denying that he was a user of illegal drugs. They also presented evidence that Biden had purchased cocaine and other drugs in the months leading up to the gun purchase.

Biden's defense attorney, Christopher Clark, argued that Biden did not lie on the form and that he was not a user of illegal drugs at the time of the gun purchase. Clark also said that Biden was under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he filled out the form and that he did not understand what he was signing.

The jury ultimately rejected Biden's defense and found him guilty on all charges.

Biden faces sentencing on October 17, 2024. He remains free on bail until that time.

In a related development, the Democratic Party has agreed to reimburse the White House for Jill Biden's flights between France and Delaware during the Hunter Biden trial. The flights cost taxpayers over $100,000.

Republicans have vowed to continue pursuing the "Biden crime family" after Hunter Biden's guilty verdict. They allege that Joe Biden and other members of his family have engaged in corrupt activities.

The Hunter Biden trial is the first in a series of legal challenges facing the first son. He is also facing federal tax charges, which are scheduled to go to trial in November 2024.
