An attorney for David Knezevic, the estranged husband of missing Florida woman Ana Maria Knezevic, has denied Knezevic's involvement in her disappearance from a Madrid apartment building. Despite allegations that Knezevic left the building with a suitcase on the night she vanished, his attorney claims he had nothing to do with her disappearance.
David Knezevic, the estranged husband of missing Florida woman Ana Maria Knezevic, has denied any involvement in her disappearance through his attorney, Ken Padowitz. Padowitz stated that he would not be making any further statements at this time.
Ana Maria Knezevic, 40, was last seen entering her Madrid apartment building on February 2nd, 2024, around 2:20 PM. Federal court documents allege that David Knezevic, 36, left the same building with a suitcase later that evening.
Security footage captured a man with similar characteristics to Knezevic entering the building at 9:30 PM, wearing a motorcycle helmet. The man used spray paint to disable a surveillance camera and placed duct tape over the building's lock to prevent the lock from engaging.
At approximately 10:30 PM, the man was seen leaving the elevator with what appeared to be a suitcase. Ana's loved ones reported her missing after she failed to appear for a planned trip to Barcelona.
David Knezevic was arrested at Miami International Airport on Monday by Policía Nacional, the Spanish international police. The arrest was made in connection with his wife's disappearance.
Sanna Rameau, a friend of Ana from Florida, expressed concerns about a strange text message she received from Ana on February 3rd. The message included strange claims about meeting someone wonderful and going to a summer house.
Rameau's suspicions were further raised when she received another message claiming that Ana had met a man with an "amazing connection" while walking after therapy.
FBI investigations revealed that David Knezevic had asked a Colombian woman on a dating app to help him translate the same messages into "perfect Colombian." He claimed to have a friend in Serbia who needed the translation for a script about a Colombian character.
The Colombian woman later discovered the messages were the same as those sent to Rameau. She also learned about Ana's disappearance and contacted authorities.
Law enforcement traced the movements of a rental vehicle owned by David Knezevic, revealing that he had traveled with it from Serbia to Spain and back in the months leading up to and following Ana's disappearance. The rental car showed signs of modifications, including tinted windows and changed license plates.
Spanish police identified the brand of spray paint used to disable the security camera in Ana's building. They obtained footage of a man who appeared to be Knezevic purchasing the spray paint from a store in Madrid.
In March, a woman claiming to be Ana contacted an insurance carrier to cancel her insurance policies. Law enforcement determined that David's employee had impersonated Ana, opening a new bank account in her name and using her Social Security number.
David and Ana Knezevic were going through a contentious divorce, and authorities allege that David was unwilling to divide their assets equally. David's attorney has not commented on these allegations.
The investigation into Ana Maria Knezevic's disappearance is ongoing, and the authorities are seeking information that could lead to her whereabouts.
