The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as Melvin Jesus Aquino Enriquez, 26, of Porter. He faces charges of injury to a child and assault-family violence.

Authorities responded to a call about an injured child at Enriquez's residence on April 14. They promptly initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the baby's injuries.

The infant was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries on April 21.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit is awaiting autopsy results to determine the exact cause of death and consider additional charges. Enriquez is currently detained on a $75,000 bond.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has also placed a detainer on Enriquez due to his immigration status. According to an ICE spokesperson, Enriquez is a "previously removed Mexican national" who illegally re-entered the United States after being deported in September 2020.

Enriquez was arrested in 2020 for criminal trespass and placed on an immigration detainer. However, he was released from custody and later illegally re-entered the country.

Sheriff's officials have expressed commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and preventing similar tragedies in the future.

Meanwhile, former Denver Bronco Derek Wolfe spoke out against Denver Mayor Michael Hancock's request for residents to open their homes to undocumented immigrants. Wolfe stated his opposition, claiming that such a move would be "madness."

In response to the arrest of Enriquez, Wolfe emphasized the importance of securing the border and ensuring that undocumented immigrants are held accountable for their actions. He expressed concern about the potential consequences of encouraging illegal immigration.

The incident in Texas highlights the ongoing debate over immigration policy, with some advocating for strict enforcement and others seeking more compassionate approaches. The arrest of an illegal immigrant in connection with the death of a child has sparked further controversy and raised questions about the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals within the community.
