IDF's daring daytime operation in central Gaza liberated four hostages held captive by Hamas, demonstrating the military's precision and preparedness.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) carried out a highly complex and risky operation in the heart of Nuseirat, central Gaza, successfully rescuing four hostages held captive by Hamas. The mission, meticulously planned for weeks, leveraged precise intelligence to pinpoint the location of the hostages and execute a surgical strike.
Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari of the IDF described the operation as "surgical" in its precision, with a primary focus on minimizing civilian casualties. The mission commenced at 11 a.m. local time, with officers of the National Police special anti-terror unit of Yamam and Shin Bet agents simultaneously raiding two Hamas buildings.
The soldiers, who had undergone intensive training in preparation for the rescue mission, swiftly located and extracted the three male hostages and one female hostage from the buildings amidst intense gunfire. Dramatic aerial footage captured the hostages running with Israeli forces towards waiting helicopters, which transported them to safety.
However, the operation did not come without its sacrifices. Chief Inspector Arnon Zmora, 36, an officer in the special anti-terror unit of Yamam, was critically injured during the raid and later succumbed to his injuries. He left behind a wife and two children.
Hagari emphasized that Hamas has been exploiting civilian buildings to hold hostages, with Israeli intelligence successfully identifying two specific buildings in Nuseirat where hostages resided with armed guards. The decision to conduct the raid during daylight hours was also strategic, to capitalize on the element of surprise.
Despite the inherent risks of operating during the day, Israeli forces executed the mission with surgical precision, leveraging aerial support and a thorough understanding of the target area. The raid lasted approximately 25 minutes, demonstrating the IDF's efficiency and expertise.
Hagari reported that under 100 Palestinian casualties were sustained during the operation, but emphasized that the casualties were predominantly terrorists operating within the targeted buildings.
The mission involved meticulous planning and execution. Israeli forces constructed models of the buildings to simulate the raid and gathered intelligence through multiple sources to ensure the operation's success. According to Hagari, previous attempts at similar operations were abandoned due to insufficient conditions.
The rescue mission was a testament to the IDF's unwavering commitment to securing the safety of its citizens. Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant described it as one of the "most heroic and extraordinary operations" he had witnessed in his 47 years of service in Israel's defense establishment.
The IDF's precision and preparedness in this complex and dangerous operation reflect the military's capabilities and determination to safeguard the lives of those held captive by terror groups. The successful rescue of the four hostages is a victory for the IDF and a profound affirmation of Israel's commitment to its citizens' well-being.
