Fox Sports analysts discuss whether Trevor Lawrence's recent five-year, $275 million contract extension was premature, given his limited NFL experience and questionable on-field performance.

The Jacksonville Jaguars' decision to sign quarterback Trevor Lawrence to a five-year, $275 million contract extension has sparked a debate among NFL experts. Some argue that the deal was too premature, while others believe that Lawrence has the potential to become a franchise-changing player.

Fox Sports analysts Emmanuel Acho, LeSean McCoy, James Jones, and Dave Helman recently weighed in on the issue. Acho believes that the Jaguars were too quick to hand out such a lucrative contract to Lawrence, who has only played two seasons in the NFL.

"I think it's too early," said Acho. "He's a good player, but he hasn't proven that he's a franchise quarterback yet."

McCoy agreed with Acho, saying that Lawrence needs to show more consistency before he deserves that kind of money.

"He's got to play better," said McCoy. "He's got to cut down on the turnovers and make more plays. Until he does that, he doesn't deserve that kind of money."

However, Jones and Helman believe that Lawrence has the potential to be a special player and that the Jaguars made the right decision to lock him up long-term.

"I think he's going to be a superstar," said Jones. "He's got all the tools. He's got the arm strength, the accuracy, and the mobility. He's just got to put it all together."

Helman agreed, saying that Lawrence has the "it" factor that separates great quarterbacks from good ones.

"He's got that something special," said Helman. "He's got that leadership ability, that charisma. He's the kind of guy that can take a team to the Super Bowl."

Only time will tell whether Lawrence can live up to the expectations that come with such a hefty contract. However, one thing is for sure: the Jaguars have made a significant investment in their young quarterback.

In a related development, the Jacksonville Jaguars are renaming their stadium from EverBank Stadium to "TrEverBank" Stadium for their upcoming game against the Cleveland Browns. The temporary change is part of a sponsorship deal between the Jaguars and Jacksonville-based financial services company EverBank.

Lawrence, who has appeared in ads for EverBank, is reportedly behind the stadium's rebranding. The company announced the temporary change on Thursday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are coming off a disappointing season in which they missed the playoffs. Lawrence threw for 4,016 yards with 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, but he also lost seven fumbles and was sacked a career-high 35 times.

The Jaguars are hoping that Lawrence will take a step forward in his third season and lead the team to the playoffs. They have surrounded him with some talented players, including wide receivers Christian Kirk and Zay Jones, running back Travis Etienne, and tight end Evan Engram.

The Jaguars are also hoping that a new coaching staff led by head coach Doug Pederson can help Lawrence reach his full potential. Pederson has a history of developing quarterbacks, having helped Carson Wentz become a Pro Bowl player in Philadelphia.

The Jaguars will open the season at home against the Washington Commanders on September 11th.
