Inspired by the late Toby Keith's fearless spirit, Jason Aldean shares his admiration for Keith's unwavering commitment to speaking his truth, even when unpopular. Aldean believes that Keith's influence has empowered him to stay true to himself and his beliefs, without apology.
Jason Aldean, a celebrated country music icon, has drawn inspiration from the late Toby Keith, a legendary singer-songwriter renowned for his unwavering honesty and patriotism. In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Aldean reveals how Keith's impact has shaped his own career, instilling in him the courage to speak his mind and embrace his true self.
Throughout Keith's illustrious career, Aldean was captivated by his unwavering commitment to speaking his truth, regardless of whether it aligned with popular opinion. Keith's unapologetic nature inspired Aldean, who believes that it's possible to stay true to oneself and maintain an artistic career without compromising integrity.
"Toby was a guy that a lot of us looked up to," Aldean said. "He just always spoke his mind. He said what he thought, whether it was the popular opinion or not. And it was something that always kind of stood with me."
Aldean recalls Keith's most valuable advice, which has served as a guiding principle in his own life: "Never apologize for being patriotic." This advice has resonated deeply with Aldean, empowering him to stand up for his beliefs and not shy away from expressing his patriotic sentiments.
"It's just being not afraid to speak your mind, stand up for what you believe in," Aldean explained. "Whether other people agree with it or not, be who you are and be unapologetic about it. And I think that's pretty good advice."
In 2023, Aldean faced backlash after the release of his music video for "Try That in a Small Town." Critics labeled the song as pro-violence and pro-gun, but Aldean remained unfazed, choosing to follow Keith's advice and stay true to his message.
"People are kind of scared to say something a lot of times out of fear or losing a job or losing friends," Aldean said. "Maybe they're not going to get work again or whatever it is. People tend to hop on the side that's just politically correct, and it may be politically correct, but it's not right."
Aldean insists that people are weary of the constant chaos and unrest, and his song "Try That in a Small Town" resonates with those who yearn for safety and peace. He believes that Keith's influence has given him the courage to speak out against injustices and stand up for what he believes in.
As a testament to Keith's enduring legacy, Aldean is set to perform a tribute in his honor at the 59th Academy of Country Music Awards. Aldean holds Keith in high regard, acknowledging his exceptional songwriting skills and remarkable career longevity.
