GOP vice presidential nominee JD Vance says Trump's spontaneous style is part of his appeal, while acknowledging the importance of focusing on policy.
Donald Trump's running mate, JD Vance, has weighed in on the recent advice from fellow Republicans for the former president to focus on policy instead of making personal attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris.
Speaking exclusively to Fox News Digital, Vance acknowledged that while policy should be the centerpiece of the campaign, he believes Trump's candid and unfiltered nature is what resonates with his supporters.

"I think one of the things people actually love about Donald Trump in politics is he’s not unwilling to speak off the cuff," Vance said. "He says what’s actually on his mind. He’s not always filtered. I think that’s a good thing and part of his appeal."
However, Vance emphasized that the campaign's focus will remain on policy. "If you look at this race, we’re talking about policy. That’s 90% of what we’re doing," he said. "And I think that’s going to keep on happening."

Despite Trump's recent criticism of Harris's public appearances, fundraising, and intellectual abilities, Vance maintains that the campaign's primary target is her policies. "We’d much rather have an American president who is who he is, who’s willing to offend us, who’s willing to tell us the truth, who isn’t a fake who hides behind a teleprompter," Vance said.
Vance's comments come amidst growing pressure from both Democrats and Republicans for Trump to tone down his attacks on Harris. Republican leaders such as former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley have urged Trump to shift his focus to policy and avoid personal attacks.

Sources close to Trump have also indicated that his advisers are attempting to persuade him to focus more on branding Harris as an ultra-liberal and highlighting her stance on border security, crime, and inflation.
Despite the criticism, Vance believes Trump has earned the right to run his campaign as he sees fit. "To the people who say that Donald Trump should do something different, they had an opportunity to make Donald Trump do something different by challenging him over three separate primaries, every single one of which he won," Vance said. "I think Donald Trump has earned the right to run the kind of campaign that he wants to run."

The Harris campaign has criticized Trump's recent remarks about the vice president, calling them "unhinged" and "dangerous." The campaign has also accused Trump of pushing a "bizarre" agenda.
The race for the White House is expected to be highly competitive, and both parties are actively campaigning to secure their base and attract swing voters.
