White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre expressed concern on Tuesday about the erosion of children's rights in the United States, blaming the Trump administration for the trend.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has lamented the diminished rights that children enjoy today compared to when she was growing up, citing the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade as a major factor.
During an interview on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Jean-Pierre stated, "Can you believe that we have more rights, we had more rights growing up, than our kids? That's because of the Trump administration and what they were able to do."

The Supreme Court's ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization effectively ended the constitutional right to abortion, giving individual states the authority to restrict or prohibit the procedure.
Jean-Pierre emphasized the role that former President Donald Trump's Supreme Court appointees played in this decision. "The reason why we have chaos right now after the Dobbs decision, the reason why, after Roe v. Wade was overturned, overturned after being constitutional law for over 50 years, is because of what Donald Trump did in his administration," she said.

The White House Press Secretary also highlighted the contrast between the Biden administration's efforts to protect the rights of Americans and the actions of Republicans. "There's a big contrast in what we're trying to do on behalf of the American people and what we see congressional and extreme Republicans doing," she said.
Jean-Pierre's comments come as President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have made abortion a central issue in their re-election campaign. Biden has emphasized the importance of protecting reproductive rights, while Harris has warned that other fundamental freedoms could be at stake.

In a separate interview on "Morning Joe," Harris noted that Trump's Supreme Court appointees were chosen specifically to overturn Roe v. Wade. "Every person of whatever gender should understand that if such a fundamental freedom, such as the right to make decisions about your own body can be taken, be aware of what other freedoms may be at stake," she said.
The recent anniversary of the Dobbs decision has sparked renewed debate about the rights of children in the United States. Advocates for children have expressed concerns about the impact of the ruling on access to healthcare, education, and other essential services.
The Biden administration has prioritized addressing these concerns. The administration has taken steps to expand access to healthcare for children, including by increasing funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The administration has also supported legislation to protect children from gun violence and has worked to address the underlying causes of child poverty.
However, Republicans have often opposed these measures, arguing that they infringe on parental rights or are too expensive. The ongoing debate over the rights of children is likely to continue in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election.
