Actor Jeremy Renner shared that he chose his daughter over the 'Mission Impossible' franchise, prioritizing fatherhood over his career.
Jeremy Renner, renowned for his roles in 'Mission Impossible' and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently opened up about his decision to leave the 'Mission Impossible' franchise, citing his desire to be present for his daughter, Ava. Renner's departure from the action-packed spy series was a significant shift that highlights the challenges actors face in balancing their careers and personal lives.
Renner's character, IMF agent William Brandt, was introduced in 'Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol' (2011) and returned for 'Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation' (2015). However, he did not appear in subsequent films, leaving fans speculating about his absence. In a recent interview, Renner revealed that his choice to leave was driven by his responsibilities as a father.
"It requires a lot of time away. It's all in London. I had to go be a dad. It just wasn't gonna work out then," Renner explained.
Renner shares 11-year-old Ava with his ex-wife Sonni Pacheco. He acknowledged that he had initially hoped to continue with the franchise, but his priorities shifted.
"I was supposed to do more with them," he said. "I love those guys. I love Tom so much. We had so much fun, and I love that character a lot."
Renner's decision aligns with his previous comments about his commitment to his daughter. In 2021, he shared that he was willing to walk away from his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe if it interfered with his time with Ava.
"Acting and everything else goes out the window," Renner said. "Until my daughter says, 'I want to hang out with my friends, and I don't want to be around you so much, Daddy.'"
Renner's departure from 'Mission Impossible' is a testament to the importance he places on his family. While the franchise has continued without him, Renner remains open to a possible return in the future.
"Maybe now that my daughter is older that could happen," he said. "I'd always jump into a 'Mission: Impossible' anytime and back into Brandt. It's great."
Renner's predicament highlights the challenges faced by actors who navigate the demands of their careers with the responsibilities of fatherhood. His decision serves as a reminder of the sacrifices that parents make for their children and the enduring power of family bonds.
