Jewel, the renowned singer-songwriter with a heartfelt voice, has become a voice for mental health awareness, leveraging her platform to empower individuals struggling with these challenges.

Growing up on an Alaskan potato farm without basic amenities, Jewel faced adversity from an early age. "At a gala for my Crystal Bridges [Museum] exhibit in the Ozarks [this year], I sang ‘Over the Rainbow’ and ended with a cappella yodeling. It was full circle – I wanted to honor the region and say, ‘Look what we hillbillies can do!’" shared Jewel, highlighting the transformative power of art in her life.

Yodeling, a skill she learned from her father, proved to be not only a creative outlet but also a lifeline in moments of danger. "When I would go to the meadows, my dad would yodel so we can come back home," she reminisced. "But it did actually save my life in Hawaii once."

Despite the challenges she faced, Jewel's resilience shone through. She pursued her music career with unwavering determination, becoming a Grammy nominee and captivating audiences worldwide. However, her journey was marked by personal struggles, including a strained relationship with her father.

Yet, through seeking professional help, Jewel mended her relationship with her father, who later became a source of support and inspiration. "My father got sober and decided he wanted to heal," she shared. "Healing is hard work; there’s no way to fake it. Changed behavior earns back relationships. We showed up every day for each other. That’s why he and I now have the relationship we do."

"I want my life to be my best work of art.
