Just hours after denying rumors of his departure from Texas A&M, Jim Schlossnagle has reportedly agreed to become the head coach of the Texas Longhorns, his in-state rival.
College baseball fans witnessed a stunning turn of events on Tuesday as Jim Schlossnagle, who vehemently denied rumors of a potential job change just a day earlier, accepted the position of head coach at the University of Texas.
Following Texas A&M's defeat to Tennessee in the decisive Game 3 of the College World Series on Monday night, Schlossnagle expressed his unwavering commitment to the Aggies program, stating that he left his family to coach at Texas A&M "to never take another job again." However, within hours of that declaration, reports emerged that Schlossnagle was set to join the Aggies' in-state rival, the Texas Longhorns.

The news has sent shockwaves through the college baseball community, raising questions about Schlossnagle's credibility and the ethics of his recent comments. Many have criticized the coach for his apparent about-face, questioning whether he ever intended to honor his vow to remain at Texas A&M.
Schlossnagle joined Texas A&M in 2021 after spending 18 seasons at TCU. During his time in College Station, he led the Aggies to unparalleled success, culminating in their first-ever trip to the College World Series this year. However, it was Texas' recent move to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) that reportedly lured Schlossnagle away.

According to sources, Schlossnagle cited his close relationship with Longhorns athletic director Chris Del Conte, who served as TCU's athletic director during Schlossnagle's tenure there, as a key factor in his decision to join Texas. Additionally, the Longhorns' move to the SEC, which will become official on Monday, offers the opportunity to compete in arguably the top baseball conference in the country.
Schlossnagle will reportedly bring his entire coaching staff to Austin. The move reunites him with several former TCU players who have since joined the Longhorns' program.

As Texas transitions to the SEC, the addition of Schlossnagle adds a significant piece to the Longhorns' athletic puzzle. The coach has a proven track record of success at the highest level of college baseball, and his arrival in Austin is a major coup for the program. However, it will be interesting to see how Texas A&M fans react to the news and whether Schlossnagle can maintain the same level of support in his new role.
