The New England Patriots surprised many by selecting two rookie quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft, with No. 3 overall pick Drake Maye and sixth-round selection Joe Milton joining the squad. Milton, who possesses impressive running abilities, has faced suggestions that he could transition to another position in the NFL. However, the young quarterback has made it clear that he has no desire to leave his position under center.

"You are the first person I have actually heard that from, to be real with you," Milton told a reporter who inquired about the possibility of a switch to tight end. "But, that will never happen."

Milton's determination to remain a quarterback stems from his unwavering belief in his skills. Despite facing setbacks and injuries throughout his college career, he remains confident in his ability to succeed at the highest level.

"I have a lot to prove, but I'm ready for the challenge," Milton said. "I know I can play in this league, and I'm going to make the most of this opportunity."

Milton acknowledges the competitive nature of the Patriots' quarterback room, with veteran Jacoby Brissett, Bailey Zappe, and Nathan Rourke all vying for playing time. However, he is undeterred and determined to earn the starting job.

"The competition is going to be tough, but I'm ready to compete," Milton stated. "I have the talent and the drive to succeed, and I'm going to do whatever it takes to help this team win."

Milton's collegiate career was marked by both triumphs and adversity. After beginning his career at the University of Michigan, he transferred to the University of Tennessee in 2021, where he briefly held the starting job. However, injuries and inconsistent play ultimately relegated him to a backup role.

Despite these challenges, Milton's physical attributes and potential remain undeniable. He boasts a strong arm, impressive athleticism, and a never-say-die attitude. These qualities have made him a tantalizing prospect for the Patriots, who are eager to find a long-term solution at the quarterback position.

The 2023 season represented Milton's most successful year to date. In 12 games as Tennessee's starting quarterback, he passed for 2,813 yards with 20 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also rushed for 299 yards and seven scores, showcasing his versatility as a dual-threat quarterback.

Milton is aware that earning significant playing time with the Patriots will be an uphill battle. However, he is not deterred and believes he can make a significant contribution to the team.

"I'm not going to let the competition faze me," Milton said. "I'm going to work hard every day and prove that I deserve to be on the field. I'm confident that I can help this team win, and I'm excited to get started."

The Patriots' decision to draft two rookie quarterbacks has created a crowded quarterback room, but Milton has no intention of being left behind. He remains steadfast in his commitment to the quarterback position and is determined to prove his worth to the team and to the NFL.
