Nearly three decades after his daughter's tragic death, John Ramsey remains resolute in his pursuit of answers and accountability. Despite police resistance, he continues to demand DNA testing and other investigative steps to solve the cold case.

Nearly 28 years since the gruesome murder of 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey, her father, John, remains a relentless advocate for justice. Despite his age and pressure from police to desist, Ramsey refuses to let the case grow cold, determined to find the perpetrator who took his precious daughter's life.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Ramsey expressed his frustration with the Boulder Police Department's reluctance to pursue independent DNA testing on remaining evidence, including JonBenet's underwear, which contains traces of an unknown male's DNA. He also believes that the department may have lost or misplaced crucial evidence over the years.

"As far as we know, these items have never been tested," Ramsey said. "They were taken from the crime scene as possible evidence. We want them tested, and we want them tested by an outside lab for DNA sampling. To my knowledge, that's never happened."

Ramsey fears that valuable time and potential leads may have been lost due to BPD's inaction. He is also pushing for the introduction of the federal Homicide Victims' Families' Rights Act in Colorado, which would grant victims' families the right to pursue legal action against police departments if their cases remain unsolved, as homicides are prosecuted at the state level.

The Boulder City Medical Examiner's autopsy report revealed that JonBenet died of strangulation and a blow to the head. However, Ramsey believes that significant items in the case, such as the garrote found around JonBenet's neck, the ransom note, and an unknown flashlight found on the family's kitchen counter, should be subjected to modern DNA testing techniques.

Ramsey remains haunted by the words of famed detective Lou Smit, who assisted with the case before his death in 2010. "On his deathbed, [Smit] said, 'Don't forget this name, John.' So there was one person he was very interested in," Ramsey said.

Smit's belief that DNA would eventually lead to a breakthrough in the case has not been without skepticism. BPD maintains that it has conducted extensive DNA testing and is working with experts to analyze remaining samples. However, Ramsey is not satisfied with their efforts and believes that an independent firm could provide a fresh perspective.

Two years ago, Ramsey sent a letter to Colorado Governor Jared Polis, along with a petition signed by over 30,000 people, requesting the authorization of independent forensic genetic genealogy testing. The governor expressed optimism that the case could be solved, but no concrete action has been taken since.

Meanwhile, BPD has announced that it is digitizing all evidence in the case, resulting in a database of thousands of files, including tips, interviews, and evidence samples. The department claims that DNA testing remains a focal point of the investigation and that it is utilizing the latest forensic techniques.

Ramsey's perseverance and unwavering commitment to JonBenet's memory serve as an enduring reminder of the pain and frustration experienced by families of unsolved homicide victims. His relentless pursuit of justice for his daughter exemplifies the often arduous and emotionally taxing journey they face in their quest for answers.
