Speaker Mike Johnson asserts that thousands of illegal immigrants participating in US elections could potentially determine the outcome of close races, including the House majority.
In a recent press conference, Speaker Mike Johnson expressed concerns regarding the potential impact of illegal immigrant voting on the outcome of US elections. He suggested that "thousands" of undocumented immigrants could be casting ballots, swaying the results in close races.
Amidst Johnson's allegations, California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed new legislation regulating AI-generated "deepfake" election content. These laws aim to prevent the spread of deceptive material on social media platforms.

However, two of the three new laws are facing a legal challenge in federal court. A conservative poster known as @MrReaganUSA filed a lawsuit, arguing that the laws stifle free speech and restrict satire.
The Hamilton Lincoln Law Institute, representing @MrReaganUSA, maintains that the laws disproportionately affect political commentators who use satire to critique public figures and rely on social media viewership for their livelihood.

The lawsuit highlights a provision in the laws that requires social media platforms to establish a substantial censorship apparatus and respond to complaints within 36 hours. It argues that this will lead to platforms simply banning content rather than discerning its legitimacy.
The new laws prohibit the creation and publication of deepfakes ahead of Election Day and 60 days thereafter. They empower courts to halt the distribution of such materials and impose civil penalties.

The lawsuit centers around an AI-generated parody of a Kamala Harris campaign ad posted by @MrReaganUSA. The account argues that the laws infringe on its right to publish satirical content, even if it is clearly labeled as such.
Newsom's spokesperson has defended the new laws, stating that they aim to prevent further misleading of the public and protect the integrity of elections. He also notes that similar laws have been passed in other states.

Frank, the attorney representing @MrReaganUSA, has indicated plans to challenge deepfake laws in other jurisdictions, including Alabama.
Newsom has previously expressed his disapproval of AI-generated satirical election content. In response to the altered ad of Harris, he vowed to sign legislation to make such practices illegal.
