Judge Judy Sheindlin slams "ridiculous" policies that reward criminals and punish victims, singling out district attorneys for creating unsafe cities nationwide. Amidst rising crime rates, she warns that society is facing permanent decline if current trends continue.
In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Judge Judy Sheindlin, renowned TV personality and former family court judge, expressed her dismay over the current state of crime in the United States, attributing it to misguided policies and ineffective leadership.
"I know how we got here," Sheindlin declared. "We created a scenario where bad people got rewarded, and the victims got punished by the system."
With compelling examples, such as the recent assault on actor Steve Buscemi in New York City and the alarming crime statistics in Washington, D.C., Sheindlin highlighted the growing problem of street violence and property crime. She acknowledged that personal circumstances may contribute to criminal behavior but maintained that they did not excuse lawbreaking.
"You're just as dead as somebody 18 kills you, or 17," she said. "And if you're 17 years old and kill somebody, you don't belong with kids who are 12, in a juvenile facility."
Sheindlin took aim at specific policies, such as New York's Raise the Age legislation, which raised the minimum age for adult criminal prosecution to 18. "That's ridiculous," she stated. "If a 17-year-old commits a heinous crime, society should not tolerate it."
She also criticized district attorneys, responsible for upholding justice and protecting communities, who failed to fulfill their duties effectively. "When you have elected district attorneys who don't know what their job is, they should find another job," she said.
Sheindlin's analysis extended beyond violent crime, encompassing property offenses such as robberies and carjackings that have soared in numerous cities. She emphasized that accountability and deterrence were crucial in combating the crime wave.
"We better get smarter before we get lost," she concluded ominously. "Permanently lost."
Despite the challenges, Sheindlin expressed faith in society, recalling an interview she gave in 1993, where she predicted a worsening of family court dysfunction. "I said, 'worse,'" she recalled. "And here we are, 30 years later, and are we in a worse shape as a country, as a world, than we were in 1993? You bet your bottom we are."
Sheindlin's insights, based on decades of experience in the legal system, offer a sobering assessment of the current state of affairs in America. Her call for responsible policies and effective law enforcement underscores the urgency of addressing the rampant crime threatening the safety and well-being of communities nationwide.
