Jocelyn's life was tragically cut short last month when she was allegedly lured below a bridge in Houston and brutally murdered by two men who had illegally entered the country. The suspects, Johan Jose Martinez-Rangel, 21, and Franklin Jose Peña Ramos, 26, face capital murder charges.

Alexis shared that Jocelyn had dreams of becoming a superstar. Her family is determined to keep her memory alive and build upon her legacy.

"She would always say that she wanted to be a superstar," said Jocelyn's grandfather, Kelvin Alvarenga. "So I think that we need to continue on her dream and, under the circumstances, which are not the greatest, she will become a superstar."

Alvarenga expressed gratitude to former President Donald Trump for reaching out to the family and offering support. He also acknowledged the potential political implications of Jocelyn's case, but emphasized that his granddaughter should not be used as a "political base."

"I want them to know her name as well," Alvarenga said.

The family opposes the death penalty for the suspects and believes they should instead spend their lives in prison as a constant reminder of their heinous act.

"I’d rather for them to remember this in [a prison's] general population," Alvarenga said. "Life without parole. That way, they can remember every night when they go to bed the horrific deal that they did to our family."

Jocelyn's tragic death has sparked outrage and calls for stricter border control. Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick have pledged to introduce "Jocelyn's Law," which would deny bail for capital murder suspects.

"She was already a star in our lives, and now we’re going to make it worldwide," Alvarenga said of his granddaughter.

The suspects are scheduled to return to court in September. As the case moves forward, Jocelyn's family and the community continue to mourn her loss and demand justice for her senseless murder.
