Minnesota Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson has signed a four-year contract extension worth $140 million, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL.
Justin Jefferson, the Minnesota Vikings' standout wide receiver, has inked a staggering four-year contract extension that solidifies his status as one of the most highly compensated players in the league. The $140 million deal, with $110 million guaranteed, propels him to the top of the non-quarterback pay scale in the NFL, according to ESPN.
Since joining the Vikings in 2020, Jefferson has established himself as an elite playmaker. In 60 games, he has amassed 392 catches for 5,899 yards and 30 touchdowns. His exceptional performance earned him the Offensive Player of the Year award in 2022, when he led the league in receptions (128) and receiving yards (1,809).
Despite injuries curtailing his 2023 season, Jefferson still managed to tally 1,074 receiving yards in 10 games. His 68 catches and five touchdowns further showcased his immense talent.
"Over the first four seasons of his career, Justin entrenched himself as the best wide receiver and one of the most electric players in the NFL," Vikings co-owners Mark and Zygi Wilf said. "He is a special talent, a committed teammate, and an excellent representative of the Vikings."
General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah expressed his gratitude to Jefferson and his representatives for their willingness to collaborate. "From the moment I arrived in Minnesota, Justin has consistently proven to be one of the best players in the NFL on and off the field, and we are excited about having him as a cornerstone of our team for a long time to come," Adofo-Mensah stated.
Jefferson's journey to greatness began in Louisiana, where he developed his gratitude and competitive spirit. "I would not be in this position if not for my family and their support," he said. "I'd like to thank the Wilf family, Kevin O'Connell, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, and the entire Vikings organization for believing in me and trusting me to help lead this team."
Jefferson is an embodiment of the Vikings' culture, known for his dedication to the process and team goals. "Justin has earned this contract, and we are thrilled he will remain a Minnesota Viking for a very long time," the Wilf brothers added.
While Jefferson will encounter a new quarterback in 2024, with Kirk Cousins departing for the Atlanta Falcons, he remains confident in the team's prospects. The Vikings have selected J.J. McCarthy out of Michigan high in the draft and signed Sam Darnold to bolster their quarterback corps.
Jefferson's contract extension is a testament to his exceptional talent and the Vikings' commitment to building a competitive team. His presence on the field will undoubtedly ignite the Minnesota faithful and lead the Vikings toward future success.
