Actor Justin Theroux believes that artificial intelligence (AI) will play a role in future Hollywood films, but he doesn't think it can replicate the unique vision of renowned director Tim Burton.
Hollywood actor Justin Theroux has shared his thoughts on the potential impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the future of filmmaking, particularly in relation to the work of visionary director Tim Burton.
Theroux, who stars alongside Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega in Burton's upcoming sequel "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," believes that AI will have a place in future films, but he doesn't think it can match the singularity of Burton's artistic vision.

"I think there will be AI films in the future, or films perhaps written to some extent by AI," Theroux told Fox News Digital. "But I think, for the moment, when you have a real… just putting it against a Tim Burton movie, I think it's very difficult to duplicate what comes out of that man's head."
Theroux's comments echo those of Burton himself, who has previously expressed concerns about the use of AI to recreate his iconic characters. In an interview with The Independent in September 2023, Burton said that he found AI recreations of his characters "disturbing."

"They had AI do my versions of Disney characters!" Burton exclaimed. "I can't describe the feeling it gives you. It reminded me of when other cultures say, 'Don't take my picture because it is taking away your soul.'"
While Theroux and Burton acknowledge the limitations of AI in replicating artistic vision, they also recognize its potential for collaboration. Theroux believes that AI could assist filmmakers in certain aspects of production, such as editing and special effects.

"I think AI could be a tool for filmmakers," Theroux said. "It could be used to help with things like editing or special effects. But I don't think it can replace the human element."
Theroux's latest film, "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," is a highly anticipated sequel to the 1988 supernatural comedy horror film. Theroux plays the role of Rory, a love interest for Lydia (Ryder), who is desperate to marry her for nefarious purposes.

The film also stars Michael Keaton, who reprises his role as the mischievous demon Beetlejuice, and Catherine O'Hara, who reunites with the original cast. Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe join the cast in new roles.
"Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" is set to release in theaters on September 6th.
