Despite facing criticism for avoiding the media, Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign strategy has been praised by some in the media. However, her lack of engagement with the press has also raised concerns, particularly among Black voters.
Vice President Kamala Harris has faced criticism for her lack of engagement with the media since launching her presidential campaign. In the past 36 days, she has not granted any sit-down interviews or held any formal press conferences. This has raised questions about her transparency and accountability to voters, especially Black voters who have traditionally been a key demographic for the Democratic Party.
Radio host Charlamagne Tha God recently scolded rapper Plies, who had claimed that Harris did not owe Black voters an explanation of her policies. Charlamagne argued that it was "absolutely" wrong to tell Black people to "settle" for the Democratic candidate without asking questions or seeking clarification.

"I don't understand Plies or any Black person for that matter, telling Black people to ‘just settle.’ 'Just accept whatever the candidate is giving you. Don't ask questions, just vote. They don't have to explain anything to us.' No," Charlamagne said on Monday's "The Breakfast Club."
Charlamagne's comments underscore the importance of accountability and transparency in political campaigns. Voters have a right to know the candidates' positions on issues that affect their lives, and candidates have a responsibility to articulate their policies and explain their reasoning.

Harris' avoidance of the press has also been seen as a departure from the traditional campaign strategy, which usually involves extensive media engagement to build public support and answer questions from voters. Some media pundits have suggested that Harris could rely on Democratic enthusiasm to win over voters rather than lay out detailed policies. However, this approach has been criticized for potentially undermining the democratic process by reducing voter knowledge and engagement.
Other media figures have praised Harris' strategy of not taking interviews, arguing that it allows her to focus on meeting voters and delivering speeches. Last week, several pundits and news anchors from CNN and CBS floated the idea that Harris could win over voters based on her personal charisma and style, rather than her policy positions.

Despite the differing opinions on Harris' media strategy, it is clear that her lack of engagement with the press has raised concerns among some voters. As the campaign season progresses, it remains to be seen whether Harris will adjust her approach and provide more transparency and accountability to the electorate.
