Vice President Kamala Harris has been officially labeled the "Border Czar" in a bipartisan House resolution condemning her and the Biden administration for their failure to address illegal immigration. The resolution cites her inability to stem the surge in illegal crossings, refusal to confront border crime, and lack of action on the push factors driving migration. Despite supporters denying the term "border czar," the resolution formally assigns it to Harris, sparking criticism for her approach to immigration.
Vice President Kamala Harris has been formally labeled the "Border Czar" in a bipartisan House resolution condemning her and the Biden administration for their failure to address illegal immigration. The resolution passed with the support of six Democrats, including four from states bordering Mexico or Canada, and all Republicans. It accuses Harris of failing to fulfill her mandate to address the root causes of migration from Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador.

Harris received the "border czar" label for her role in leading efforts to address the influx of migrants at the southern border in 2021. However, critics argue that her record has been marked by inaction and a lack of focus on illegal immigration from other countries. The resolution specifically cites her refusal to discuss border crime, including the role of cartels and the surge in drug overdoses.
"She failed to deal with the root causes that she identified, and then she went a step further and refused to discuss the cause of the criminality that exists on the border," said Brandon Judd, former president of the National Border Patrol Council. "This is a great vote to condemn her, and I'm glad to see that even Democrats joined in support."

In 2020, Harris supported the decriminalization of illegal immigration during a televised debate. She is now considered the Democrats' 2024 front-runner after Biden backed out of the race. Her approach to immigration has drawn criticism from both Democrats and Republicans, with some accusing her of a soft stance on border security.
The resolution condemning Harris follows months of record-high illegal crossings and increased criminal activity linked to undocumented immigrants. Migrants have been seen crossing the border from various countries, including Asia and Africa, raising concerns about the security of the nation's borders.

"Criminal illegals have taken innocent lives across America, fentanyl is pouring in, and over 100,000 individuals now die from drug overdoses each year," said Rep. Greg Murphy, R-N.C., who voted in favor of the condemnation. "Moreover, our legal immigration process has been defiled, and the sovereignty of our nation has been eroded."
The Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua has expanded its presence in the United States, targeting women's cellphones and purses in New York City. Illegal immigrants have also been arrested in connection with heinous crimes, including murder, rape, and kidnapping.

Despite supporters' attempts to deny Harris's role as a "border czar," the House resolution formally assigns her the title. It marks a significant setback for Harris, who has faced criticism for her handling of immigration issues. The resolution also highlights the growing frustration among members of Congress and the public over the Biden administration's approach to border security.
