Vice President Kamala Harris's office has expressed confidence in President Biden's capacity to serve, dismissing concerns raised by Republicans after Biden's abrupt withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race.
Vice President Kamala Harris's office has affirmed her belief in President Biden's ability to carry out his duties, despite concerns sparked by his recent withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race. The move by Biden raised questions about his fitness to complete his term, but Harris remains steadfast in her support.
"As the Vice President has said many times before, the nation is lucky to have President Biden leading our nation," Ernesto Apreza, press secretary to the vice president, told Fox News Digital on Tuesday.

Biden's abrupt departure from the presidential race followed calls from over 30 Democratic lawmakers, citing concerns about his performance at the first presidential debate. His disoriented behavior and communication struggles raised alarm bells about his ability to continue serving as president.
However, Republicans have seized on these concerns, calling for Harris and Biden's Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment. Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., sent a letter demanding that the vice president and Cabinet members vote to remove Biden from office, arguing that his admission of unfitness for the presidency extends to his ability to serve.

"Joe Biden has decided he isn’t capable of being a candidate; in so doing his admission also means he cannot serve as President," Schmitt said.
Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., has also announced plans to introduce a resolution calling for Harris to invoke the 25th Amendment.

These attacks have been met with resistance from Democratic leaders, who remain confident in Biden's ability to lead. Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, D-Calif., has dismissed calls for Biden's removal, stating that he is "fully capable of serving as president."
The White House physician has released updates on Biden's health since his diagnosis with COVID-19, indicating that he has been performing all of his presidential duties. Biden himself has stated that he intends to spend the remainder of his term fulfilling his obligations as President.
Despite these assurances, speculation about Biden's fitness for office continues to swirl, with some lawmakers questioning whether he can effectively lead the country for the next two years.
Ultimately, the decision of whether to invoke the 25th Amendment rests with Harris and Biden's Cabinet. Should they determine that he is unable to fulfill his duties, they have the authority to remove him from office. However, given Harris's expressed confidence in Biden's abilities, such a move appears unlikely at this time.
