Former Republican governor of Ohio and MSNBC political analyst John Kasich has stunned MSNBC host José Díaz-Balart by speculating that President Biden may not end up being the Democratic Party presidential nominee.

Kasich's concerns stem from polling data, public sentiment on the economy, Biden's perceived weak public speaking skills, and the upcoming presidential debates. He believes these factors could lead the party to consider an alternative candidate to face former President Trump.

"I'm starting to wonder that there's a real possibility that Joe Biden will not be the Democrat nominee," Kasich declared, prompting Díaz-Balart to question where the former governor got the information.

Kasich cited polls showing Biden trailing Trump in swing states and voters' lack of confidence in his ability to handle the economy. He also expressed concern about Biden's public appearances, particularly his speeches, which he believes could damage his image during the debates.

"The fact that the economy is not turning, the fact that people are saying it's a terrible economy for them, the fact that they've said they don't have any confidence Joe Biden can fix it, his public appearances have not been very good, and now they've agreed to two debates, which is as out there as you can get," Kasich said.

When asked by Díaz-Balart where he was getting his information, Kasich insisted it was based on his conversations with "a lot of people" and the poll numbers.

"I see what these numbers are like, Jose," he said. "I mean, you had a poll, that Siena poll, [that] indicated last week, not only did they think he couldn't fix the economy – and they put Trump way ahead of him – but they also said they're not sure he's as competent as Trump."

Despite being a Republican, Kasich supported Biden's presidential campaign in 2020 and has endorsed him for re-election. However, he has expressed concerns about Biden's ability to connect with voters and his potential performance in the debates.

"I don't know how that's going to go, and I'm just beginning to wonder," Kasich said.

Díaz-Balart acknowledged Kasich's point but did not provide further commentary.

Kasich's comments have sparked debate within political circles, with some analysts agreeing with his assessment while others dismiss it as speculation. Only time will tell whether the Democratic Party will ultimately choose an alternative candidate or stick with Biden as their nominee.
