After years of estrangement, actress Kate Hudson is mending her relationship with her biological father, Bill Hudson. In a recent interview, she shared her journey of healing and her hopes for the future.
Kate Hudson, the acclaimed actress known for her vibrant roles, has delved into a personal journey of reconciliation with her estranged father, Bill Hudson. The recent family dynamics within the Hudson clan have been subject to media scrutiny, following her brother Oliver's comments about experiencing "trauma" during their childhood. However, Hudson has maintained a positive outlook, urging her brother to ignore the negativity and focus on healing.
Now, Kate Hudson has taken the initiative to discuss her own relationship with her father, a topic that has long been shrouded in privacy. In an interview promoting her debut musical album, she candidly addressed the estrangement and its lingering impact. "Those Hudson Brothers are incredibly talented musicians and gifted songwriters. My dad is a remarkable songwriter," she stated during "CBS News Sunday Morning."
The Hudson Brothers, comprising Bill, Brett, and Mark, rose to fame in the 1970s with their engaging musical style. Bill's marriage to actress Goldie Hawn during this period culminated in two children, Kate and Oliver. However, their marriage dissolved four years after they tied the knot in 1976.
When asked about the current state of her relationship with Bill Hudson, Kate Hudson admitted, "We don't really have one." However, she expressed cautious optimism, stating, "It's warming up. There are signs of improvement. But whatever happens, I accept it. I have no expectations."
Her desire for her father's well-being is evident in her words: "I just want him to be happy." Kate Hudson's journey of healing and reconciliation is not without its complexities. She has previously shared that her estranged relationship with her biological father influenced her decision to pursue music.
"I think the reason I never really connected with music is something – well, I did earlier on in my career, I thought I would definitely do music, but then 'Almost Famous' happened," she explained on the "Table for Two" podcast with Bruce Bozzi. "But later on, I kind of rejected it 'cause I was like, 'You know what?' As you do when you're dealing with daddy issues, 'I don't want to connect to that part because that's my dad. That's all dad.'"
The fear of failure and rejection played a role in her initial reluctance to pursue music. "If I put that out in the world and people didn't like it, it would destroy me," she said. "That one connection that I had to him, [if] I failed miserably at, would be like devastating to me. I wasn't ready for that."
However, time and life experiences have brought about a shift in perspective. "Then you get older and you're like, ‘Oh.’ I have the Hudson. I was raised by this incredible father [Russell]. I love my real father too. You know, I've been able to heal that. And that's it…. At the end of the day, it's always been about family first."
